Do you and your friends think you know everything there is to know about sports? If so then you need to check out Battle Trivia – sports quiz matchup. This isn’t your typical iPhone sports trivia app, it’s designed to be a 2-player head-to-head battle to determine who’s sports knowledge reigns supreme! Playing this game is like having a sports trivia tug of war. You answer a question, then your opponent answers a question. There are seven sports categories to choose from. Whoever answers the most correct questions for a given category wins the category. Whoever wins the most categories wins the game.
I tell you what, I was really caught off guard with the overall quality of Battle Trivia – sports quiz matchup. At first glance I kinda thought the app looked gimmicky and simplistic and figured it probably wouldn’t be that money. But, after playing it for a while I realized that underneath it’s gimmicky and simplistic looking attire was a well put together sports trivia app. What makes it good? Well for starters if you’re a sports nut like myself it comes with over 1,200 questions across 11 different categories. All of the questions are up-to-date and cover a wide range of sports trivia from back in the day, just a few years ago, and as recent as December 2009! Shweet! There’s also a whole bunch of other competition friendly functionality built in such as the ability to include/exclude certain sports categories, question tracking that ensures you’re asked the most relevant questions and don’t get asked the same question twice, and historical stats tracking that tells you and any other player their lifetime winning percentage, total categories played, total questions answered, as well as a full breakdown by category so you can see which topics your best at.

So, in a nutshell, I found the overall images and theme to be somewhat on the cheesy side, but really enjoyed the actual game while playing. I think any sports fan ages 12 and up would like it. The main pluses in the game are the questions, categories, and stats tracking. I love the way the app presents the questions. It gives you a great mix of current, somewhat recent, and classic sports trivia. If there was anything I think that could enhance the app even more it’d be to polish up the interface a little bit, which in my mind is still a bit rough around the edges, and to add WiFi and/or Bluetooth capability so you can play other people without having to pass your iPhone or iPod Touch back and forth. That being said I think it’s definitely an app worth checking out if you’re a sports fan and enjoy sports trivia.
