Battleship

Post Rating

The classic board game Battleship was a favorite of mine growing up! I was extremely excited to try out Electronic Arts rendition of it in their new iPhone, iPod and iPad App version – Battleship. Taking on a classic game is no small challenge as there is a direct need to preserve the basic nostalgic feel of the classic version while also adding the needed modernized, graphic infused electronic game quality we have grown accustomed to. What’s the verdict then for EA’s Battleship App? It’s a hit! The all-time favorite naval battle game is reloaded and better then ever!

Features Include:

  • DESIGNED FOR EXPLOSIVE ACTION
    • Launch strikes with touch-driven precision. Witness 3D guns blazing and smoke-billowing carriers sinking to their dooms.
  • CLASSIC PLAY WITH NEXT GEN FIREPOWER
    • Engage in the authentic Classic Mode or fire at will in the intense Salvo Mode.
  • DESTROY ENEMIES IN MULTIPLE MODES
    • Employ an array of lethal power in Super Weapons Mode. Or deploy your secret unlocked weapons for Multiplayer supremacy.
  • SEEK MORE DAUNTING CHALLENGES
    • Sink THEIR battleships with Hotseat, two-player WiFi, Bluetooth, and Pass & Play capabilities.
  • ACHIEVE TOTAL VICTORY AT SEA
    • Demonstrate strategic and tactical skills to earn Super Weapons. Improve your rank from Seaman all the way to fully-fledged Admiral!

My favorite aspect of playing Batteship was that I truly thought the basic game mode was even better then the classic, with the electonic version and enhanced graphics. The other game modes I found to be even more enjoyable then the classic.  You can fire at will in Salvo Mode, by being able to fire as many shots as your have ships each round. Next, employ lethal power in Super Weapons Mode, enabling you to drop bombs, spray machine gun fire and more knocking of multiple locations in one shot.

The one true problem and disappointment I found while playing Battleship was in the Multiplayer aspect. In it you have 3 options, pass and play, bluetooth and Wifi. In pass in play you simply hand off 1 iPhone, iPod touch or iPad back and forth. In Bluetooth and Wifi mode you can play with two different units, which is ideal. The problem is I couldn’t get two units to pair at all in Wifi mode, and though I did get a pairing in bluetooth mode it kept dropping off while in the middle of a game. So this is an important part of the game that MUST be fixed. If it wasn’t for this problem Battleship would be an immediate 5 finger app because the single player modes are so fun and well made. In the end if you you’re a fan of the classic game I would recommend buying EA’s iPhone version.
