iOOTP Baseball is 99 Cents This Weekend; New Update Adds 2nd Wild Card and More

OOTP Developments’ iOOTP Baseball 2012 is on sale this weekend, Friday through Sunday, for just $0.99. (It’s normally $4.99.) It’s the mobile version of the company’s Out of the Park Baseball app for PC/Mac, which lets you run a baseball team from top to bottom, setting lineups and pitching rotations, dictating strategies, trading players, negotiating contracts, grooming the next generation of superstars, and more.

iOOTP also recently saw another update that adds the second wild card for each league to the game. Now players will be able to guide their teams to the play-in wild card games that are happening in real life this Friday. Other new features include: Pitches Thrown and Pitcher Status added to the Field View screen; a Show Opponent button to see who’s coming up next in the other team’s lineup after pinch-hitting for a pitcher or other player; and the ability to look at past champions for every year played, not just the previous season.

The addition of the second wild card is compatible with saved games, so as long as you are at least one day before the end of the regular season in your current game, you’ll be able to use the expanded playoff format.

iOOTP Baseball 2012 was released this past April. The iPad HD version is included free, so when you play it on an iPad, it automatically takes advantage of the larger screen.

iOOTP’s core features include:

- Three game modes: Major Leagues, which lets players guide their favorite major league team through the 2012 season and beyond; Fictional, which serves up a fresh world full of fictional players, providing a unique challenge each time; and Historical, which offers three exciting past seasons to recreate — 1924, 1969, and 2004 — with the ability to buy more through in-app purchases.

- Managerial options that enable players to set lineups, pitching rotations, and depth charts before taking the field to make in-game calls, including when to issue hit-and-run and steal signs, how to configure the defense, when to pull pitchers and put in pinch-hitters, and more. Players can also let the computer handle those decisions and set a series of sliders that dictate overall strategies, such as aggressiveness on the base paths, how often to pitch around batters, and more. They can simulate their season a day or a week at a time, jumping back in to manage games whenever they want.

- A play-by-play text stream that describes what’s happening on the field during the game, making it feel like a radio broadcast.

- An in-depth financial system that allows players to unleash their inner GM. Are they “Moneyball” disciples, looking for undervalued players who help the team win while keeping payroll low, or are they free-wheeling spenders seeking high-profile free agents? Players oversee trades, negotiate contract extensions, sign free agents, draft players, cultivate minor league prospects, move players between the active roster, minor league roster and disabled list, and more.

Ultimate Flick Cricket – LOVE HANDLE DEVELOPERS

This iPad game is called Ultimate Flick Cricket and was developed by a team calling themselves the “Love Handle Developers” it’s just out on iTunes and a blast to play so grab it quick…

The app has several playing modes and even has a T2 Championship Series option that allows you to go head to head with all the National Teams. Recently the developers sent us a test flight invitation to check out this new iPad game which simulates the sport of Cricket. Can’t say we’re huge cricket buff’s but WTH we thought we would give it a go…

You can only access the game playing modes by signing into facebook from within the app. On the apps homescreen you’ll the facebook icon at the bottom center of the page. You need to click it and go through the login sequence. You will only have to do this once!

The T2 Championship Tournament mode is a simulator mode which pits you against the other teams. You actually get to protect your wicket and strike the ball bowled at you but when it comes time for the other teams batsman to swing away the system simulates the action. Thus you will never bowl the ball, this game is all about contacting the ball as it is bowled at your batsman.

Here’s how the gameplay works… A ball is bowled at you from the left of the screen it will bounce in front of the box then jettison towards you at varying speeds and heights off the ground. The trick is to knock it with a tap or flick from your finger as it passes through the zone. If you make good contact the ball flies through the air until it hits the scoring zones which are placed around the parameter of your ipad screen.

The scoring zones are varied and at least 50% of the zones are marked out so you have to learn to nick the ball to the right areas in the scoring zones to actually accumulate scores. The developers have randomized these zones so that each time a new batsman steps up to protect the stumps the zones are repositioned.

Don’t worry there is a practice area that gives you plenty of time to learn how to nick the ball.

All of the general rules found in the real game of Cricket are applied here. At least as the batsman is concerned. In tournament mode you get three wickets. Play continues until they have expired! Dot balls and free balls do not cost you anything and you continue to bat until your wickets expire.

The game also has a 3 wicket option and a 2 Overs option. In these modes you can choose to play against random online players or send invites to your facebook friends. The system works a lot like the draw something game where you take your turn and then the game alerts your opponent. In app notifications will alert you whenever a player has completed their round so the flow is golden.

Fact is we like the game a lot. It is fun and promotes a very competitive atmosphere with its two player mode options.

Unfortunately the app is not available on iTunes yet so you’ll just have to stare at the screenshots in envy. We’ll let you know when it is released.

Sheep Dash – SocioLabs SpA.

What a great little app. I mean it’s meaningless and won’t save the world but it is fun never the less. The graphics are great, the animal characters are intuitive and there is always something new popping out at you. The developers out did themselves with all the little accent pieces they have tossed in to circumvent your efforts to foil the wolfs appetite.

So here is the story line, which at first I thought was a bit corny but now that I have had a chance to walkthrough the app I am all in.

The object is to capture the bad wolf before he gets away with all the lambs. That’s it, simple enough right? Well it’s not really that simple!

First off to hinder your efforts and aid the wolf the developers have given the grinning furber a head start so your chasing after him from the get go. Which is exactly the opposite of say classics chasers like Temple Run or even an new one we have been enjoying known as subway Surf. I really don’t want to spoil the fun so I am not going to mention any cheats for you you’ll just have to figure it out for yourself as you go.

All I can say is that the app is sticky fun, my kids are digging it and frankly so am I. Well done to the team that took the time to slap this app together. I’d say as mindless time sucker apps goes this ones at the top of the heap.

Get it on iTunes today. It’s really great craic!

We are very pleased to announce that the one and only original virtual slap app is now once again available on iTunes. The app is in it’s original form and we are very excited to be able to offer it for free.

The SlapApp App was one of the first 50k apps listed for sale on iTunes and was a great success having had 10′s of thousands of downloads through 2010.

For those of you wondering what the SlapApp is capable of… it really is a very simple system and its purpose is to poke fun at friends and family by virtually slapping them. Not virtually but virtually if you know what we mean. The app lets you record taunts and stores them locally on your device.

Jazz: Trump’s journey is a gripping puzzle game introduced by BulkyPix and developed by EggBall. The game is about making a young man Trump win a New Orleans Music Band contest. Jazz: Trump’s journey runs on devices using Apple’s iOS Version 4.0 or later (iPad, iPhone and iPod touch).

This platformer is set in the 1920s New Orleans, where the player plays a young man Trump who wants to win the New Orleans Music Band contest. The theme of the soundtrack, as can be guessed from the title, is Jazz. In order to participate in the contest, Trump needs to create a band of four members. The gameplay starts with a retro look in Trumps’s life in his hometown New Orleans and his go-get-it attitude to fulfil his dream. This creates the story for the gameplay and cannot be skipped. At first one feels this a bit lengthy but the later part of the game more than compensates for it.

Trump’s journey is filled incredible adventures as you move forward in the game. You can learn to control time by using the trumpet. The graphics are set in a typical 1920s New Orleans type of neighbourhood with traditional roof tops, streets and prisons.

The gameplay involves collecting music melodies as you progress, reaching checkpoints, getting hidden pictures, searching for unlockables that tell more of Trump’s stories, and finding band members. Trump needs to climb, jump and bounce his way through more than 15 lengthy side scrolling stages. Warehouses become vertical bars of moving platforms, and parades evidently travel along a skyline. Other mechanics present include wall jumping, moving platforms and placing bocks onto switches. The obstacles include spike pits or racist police officers.

Each time you bag a new band member, his music instrument is added to the soundtrack. This is a very interesting and a beautiful innovation. The soundtrack is very catching and refreshing. The band members are given an identity and you can see how winning the competition can transform their lives.

The game features the beautiful lady Coquelicot whose heart Trump wants to win by winning the contest that will make him a Jazz music star.

Overall Jazz: trump’s journey proves to be an interesting out-of-the-box puzzler with an excellent presentation and a lovely soundtrack, composed by jazz musicians. The audio style is amazing and the gaming graphics excellent and crisp. You follow the latest updates and send your feedback on the game’s Facebook and Twitter pages.

Zombie Hit is as cool as any Zombie Slasher out there!

Zombie Hit – Energatix Studio Inc.

ZombieHit is the newest zombie games release to hit iTunes. Developed by New York based Energatix Studio, we think this zombie game is sure to live up to its name and become a big hit.

That said, this is a quazi-zombie slasher, slash zombie hit smasher game that will absolutely get your thumbs cramping. The objective is to hit the zombies and score kills without actually whacking the humans.

Zombiehit is available for the iphone and ipad gamers. The app currently has 3 levels known as eras, to advance you must successfully tap out 200 zombies without striking more than 3 of the humans.

To help out the developers have given you a knockout tool known as bombs. You get 5 free when you download the game but they do not automatically appear. You must go to the in-app store and select the “5 free option”.

We ended up buying a 50 bomb pack from the store to get through each level. Albeit we did so because we were not patient enough to keep pummeling the zombies into submission.

Like most other zombie games there is a slash element in your attack mode which is apparent in the 2nd eras of the zombie game. The slashing effort is necessary to defend from the attacking bats.

In the third eras the introduction of a larger zombie means less room to maneuver and whack the smaller ones, add the pesky bats to the fray and you are neck deep in zombie hell.

As far as graphics the backgrounds are static and the zombies are one dimensional, springing up from below and barrel rolling across the screen.

This becomes a bit monotonous but it is hard to really focus on this flaw as you have very little time to dwell on anything other than hitting the zombies, slashing the bats and/or double tapping the monster zombies into oblivion.

We rate the app a 4. It gets off to a slow start but once you level up you get plenty of kicks from the gameplay.

GeoEmpires

GeoEmpire is a GPS enabled location gaming app available for the iPad and Android marketplaces.

Since there seems to be a lot of congestion in this space we thought we would mention some likes apps and try to draw comparison to them with the GeoEmpire IOS App.
According to the apps developers the following differences can be found with each of the corresponding apps when compared to the GeoEmpire iPhone Strategy App.
1. Paralel Kingdom – This app is a bit more complex than GeoEmpire. Parallel Kingdom is definitely not for casual players as it requires a great deal of sophisticated strategy to master the app.
2. Little Empires – Much like GeoEmpire this app is location based but on the lower end of sophistication. The app is developed off the mojo-arcade shell theme and more or less an arcade app type strategy game. But placing the term strategy in the description of this app might be stretching it a bit. It is OK for the casual gamer but serious strategy buff’s would blow right through it.
3. Hadur – This game app has all the elements of the GeoEmpire app but lacks the intense dedication to quality graphics you find in the GeoEmpire App. This app is good for the causal gamer and might hook a few of the mid range strategy crazed fans but not likely. It they are playing Hadur it won’t be long before a good gamer steps up to the more sophisticated GeoEmpire strategy app as this one borders on just above casual gaming.
4. Home Invasion – Is a good example of a cool strategy gamer app but it still needs a little more depth to keep the attention of a seasoned strategist. This is a quality strategy arcade game by most accounts.
5. Shadow Cities – This app is a bit more complex than GeoEmpire and is definitely not for casual players. Just like GeoEmpires the better your strategy the better off you will be playing this hardcore strategy IOS app game.
