Gomi is an extremely creative app that offers many hours of challenging game-play, tons of levels and mini games, and projects an eco friendly message that’s great for kids! Created by Bovinedragon Software, Gomi is a roly poly green adventure where you power a variety of little Gomies on their quest to clean up the world’s pollution, restoring precious ecosystems back to their natural beauty. On your quest you’ll roll, bounce, and launch your Gomi around 8 unique worlds with over 140 maze-like levels. Using your gooey Gomi skin you absorb trash, junk, and other man made pollutants to leave a trail of flowers and cleanliness in your wake.
Each of the game’s over 140 levels offer up a new and different challenge. Each world consists of many dispersed island-like segments that require navigation by both land and air. Tilt and tap are the primary game controls. Gomies can hop with a simple tap anywhere on the screen or they can leap high and far with the help of their flower power. To initiate launch just wait until your flower lights up and then tap your Gomi. Ultra launch comes in handy for gathering hard to reach items and reaching otherwise hard to reach land segments. In addition to their natural abilities Gomies can use geysers to hurl themselves even further distances. Geysers can both help and hurt. If you haven’t cleaned up a segment that’s far away you can short cut the distance by taking a ride on a geyser. On the flip side, if you’ve already cleaned up most of a level you don’t want to ride a geyser right back to where you came from so make sure to be selective and leap over any geysers that you don’t need.
The maze-like levels and the sporadic geysers certainly aren’t the only challenge. The best players are able to complete levels and worlds by accumulating tons of points in the shortest periods of time. Racking up big points and short times isn’t easy because even though Gomies have a bottomless appetite for cleaning, they have to build up their ability to absorb large items. Typically you’ll start out absorbing small things like balloons and trash cans, graduating to traffic lights, people, and other mid size items, and eventually pulling in cars, trees, and other large items. If a particular level requires you to absorb a certain number of large items (ex. all of the cars), you’ll need to comb the entire world picking up small, then medium, and ultimately large items in order to complete it. So it goes without saying that you can’t be reckless in where you go and when. You’ve got to be strategic.
All in all I really enjoyed Gomi. I think it provides a lot of value for the $2.99 price. It’s a game that both kids and adults will enjoy, and boasts over 12 hours of game-play. In my eyes it actually offers a lot more. Depending on your skill level you can easily get more out of it than that. On average most levels took me 3 minutes or so to complete, but I certainly didn’t complete them all at once. If you throw in the 8 mini games you really get a lot of bang for your buck. The mini games are all different and sprinkle in a little Tetris, Sneezies, Matching, and other puzzle game-like flavor. Gomi is truly a treat to play and definitely worth making room for on your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad.
