Mr. Dumb – Go Down

Post Rating

Uhhh…huh…uhhh…huh-huh…Beavis?  No, this isn’t a Beavis and Butthead game, but it sure resembles one!  Mr. Dumb – Go Down, the 1st episode in a soon to be series of Mr. Dumb games, brings with it 3 seriously hanus looking Mr. Dumb - Go Down - Choose from 3 Ugly Characterscharacters who are stupid enough to purposly climb up trees after bee hives.  The purpose of the game is to descend down a neverending tree as far as you can without getting stung to death, mortally injured by thorns, or falling to your demise.

The game begins with your character at the top of the tree suddenly realizing they need to run for their life as a swarm of angry honey bees attack.  To escape you must leap from branch to branch quickly enough that the bees don’t catch you, but slow enough not to outpace the screen and fall to your death.  To navigate you simply touch the screen in the direction that you want to move.  As you fall from branch to branch your ugly character humorously flutters their arms like a bird to slow down your decent.  As you drop from branch to branch you have to be mindful of each branch that you land on.  Some branches are safe, others are rotten and break shortly after you land on them, some have bushes that slow down your movement and make it easier for the bees to catch up to you, and others have thorn bushes that zap your energy.

Mr. Dumb - Go Down - Funny looking characters flutter their arms as they fallMr. Dumb - Go Down - Don't let the bees sting you! They hurt!Mr. Dumb - Go Down - Don't miss a branch or SPLAT!

Mr. Dumb – Go Down is a pretty fun game, and at $0.99 is a great value, but there is definitely room for improvement.  We love the quality of the hand drawn graphics and the blatent ugliness of the characters, however some of the overall creativity is overshadowed by their unmistakeable resemblence to Beavis and Butthead.  The gameplay is decent, although not mind blowing.  As it stands today the game is one continuous level so you’re forced to start at the beginning each and everytime you play the game.  Don’t get me wrong, the way the game is currently setup it makes perfect sense to start at the beginning each time, but having the same level over and over is sure to lose it’s luster to most players after playing it enough.  The sound effects fit the game well, however both the male and female characters make the same sounds.  It’d be better if each character had their own unique sound and style.  Another nice addition would be to add a global high score list.  Currently the app only keeps your high score.  Overall these are minor enhancements that we’re confident the developer will make.  They’ve made it clear that they’re hard at work pumping out upgrades and new episodes and we look forward to checking them out.  As mentioned, at $0.99 Mr. Dumb is worth checking out.  If anything you’ll get a chuckle out of watching the characters flap their ugly arms as they fall!

Stay tuned!  The 2nd Episode of the Mr. Dumb series of apps, Mr. Dumb – Toilet, is coming soon!  You can learn more about it at ZENOX Lab’s website and by watching the newly released demo video.
