Newton’s Balls: Kinetic Physics Newton’s Cradle Simulator

Post Rating

Remember playing with a Newton’s Cradle growing up?  I sure do.  I never owned one myself, but whenever I saw one I was instantly drawn to it.  There happened to be one in the Principal’s office at my elementary school, and since I spent a lot of time there I got many an opportunity to mess with it.  There’s something fascinating about how energy is passed through each ball and how long they can keep on going without additional help.  Well, if you like the original then you’re certainly going to love the app!  Newton’s Balls: Kinetic Physics Newton’s Cradle Simulator is a truly realistic version of the real thing.

Newton's Balls: Kinetic Physics Newton's Cradle Simulator

As you might’ve guessed this app is self explanatory.  If you’ve ever played with a Newton’s Cradle then you know exactly what this app does.  All you have to do is touch the balls that you want to get swinging, move them to where you want them to be and then untouch to drop them.  From there the balls react exactly like you’d expect.  The in-game physics and sounds match the real thing to a tee.

There are a couple of extras included that provide some differentiation from a standard Newton’s Cradle.  For example you can toggle between chrome steel and wooden balls and can add/subtract the number of balls in the cradle.  You can have anywhere from 1 – 6+ balls.  To get more than six all you have to do is send an email from within the app to your friends (share the app).  You can also lock the screen so if you tilt your iPhone/iPod Touch at various angles the game physics react as if it’s on a flat surface.  If you want the game to react to different angles then all you have to do is touch the unlock button and you’re flowin.

Newton's Balls: Kinetic Physics Newton's Cradle Simulator

Overall, Newton’s Balls: Kinetic Physics Newton’s Cradle Simulator, created by Logic Consulting LLC, definitely delivers a realistic Newton’s Cradle experience.  Although it’s listed in the games category of the App Store, it’s definitely more of an entertainment app.  It’s they type of app you’ll turn to when you bored and want something to keep you entertained for five minutes.

Hi, I'm the developer of Newton's Balls. Just wanted to give an update. We have just released a new version. It has a new glass ball, the backgrounds have motion and there are two new backgrounds. There are also two additional ball support frames. We tested it on the iPad and it looks really cool. The multitouch on the iPad allows control of all 7 balls.
