If you’re looking for a fun and fast-paced casual game that’s easy to pick up and play and will appeal to children and adults alike, Pig Rush might just be the perfect app to get. In this game, you have a pig running perpetually right, and your goal is simply to guide him safely through blocks of land (think of them as platforms) for as long as you can. Tapping the bottom part of the screen will make a low jump, while tapping the upper part springs your pig up higher – and it’s up to you to use a combination of these as you estimate what it’ll take to clear distances between blocks and keep your pig from falling to his doom.
Although it sounds easy enough, in practice, it delivers a pretty challenging time. For one thing, the gaps vary greatly in length, and as you progress through levels you either get increasingly large distances to have to cover or bursts of small breaks that require more than one long tap at a time or quick low taps in succession. What makes it even harder is that at the rate the pig is moving, you only glimpse the next block a few seconds before you have to act, making this largely a game of lighting reflexes and good timing. In addition, when you get to level 4 or 5, you’ll encounter fires that are placed randomly on land – obviously, you have to avoid these at all cost or risk turning your pig into instant bacon.
To enhance the simple concept and gameplay, a combination of clean 2D and 3D cartoon graphics in the style of Paper Mario and a catchy, upbeat soundtrack give the app a unique look and feel. Local and global high scores are also available from the menu, so you can track your progress and see how you match up against other players. Taking all aspects into consideration, the app largely reminds us of Doodle Jump, the only difference being the horizontal instead of vertical movement in this one.
Great for when you have a few minutes to spare, but also addicting enough to kill an idle hour or two with, Pig Rush by ReignDesign is definitely a game we can recommend. It’s only $ 0.99 on the App Store, so why don’t you give it a try?
