Poker Tower – solitaire for rounders

Post Rating

Poker Tower, developed by Charles McGinnis, is an addictive iPhone game app based on the combination of two different card games, video poker and solitaire. Charles has created a fun and addictive game that is extremely simple to learn but surprisingly deep in strategy.

How to play Poker Tower:

To start, you’re dealt one card at a time and it’s your job to place each card in one of three potential poker hands. Once you fill a hand with five cards, you score points based on the hand and it disappears to make room for the next one. The better the hand, the more points you score.

Every time you make a good hand, a corresponding box in the poker tower will light up. If you’re able to light up the entire tower, you’re rewarded with higher point values across the board that will lead you to even higher scores. The strategy needed to light up the tower may take a few games to become clear, but the rewarding aspect of the game is in the tricks you pick up with every game you play.

Poker Tower comes with an informative help section that clearly explains the gameplay and helps get you started enjoying it immediately.

Great extra features Poker Tower includes:

  • Comprehensive stats tracking that will have you comparing your skills against your friends.
  • Automatically saved games that will keep your game safe from any disturbance from within your iPhone or elsewhere.
  • A card tracker that always shows which cards have been played and which remain (this game isn’t about memorization).
  • Sound effects that can be played WITH your favorite ipod music (why this isn’t standard on every game, we’ll never understand).

The bottom line is this is a well developed app. From the concept to the gameplay and graphics it’s well worth the current 0.99C price tag. If you enjoy strategic games and are looking for something new to fill your idle time then download Poker Tower today!

This game is too frustrating. It takes too long to confirm my suspicion that I’ve lost. If I’m 15 cards into the game and I know I’m off to a bad start there’s no way to restart! I have the fuss with the rest of the 52 cards just to lose! That’s lame. I only made it up to the 3rd tier once and it just gets too hard to hold my interest.
It’s a nice start, but not good enough yet to keep on my iPhone.
