Sights to See 1.1 for iOS – Create Custom Guidebook for Any Destination

NYC, New York – Noverse today is pleased to announce Sights to See 1.1 for iOS, an update to their user programmable tourist guide to more than 170,000 locations worldwide. The sightseer selects a city or locale, and the app automatically lists local places of interest. After choosing from the list, the app downloads and saves all the corresponding, descriptive Wikipedia entries, including maps and photos. Economical to use, it employs only free WiFi connections, and can save up-to-date tourist information on thousands of destinations. Sights to See has saved interactive Google Maps and GPS support to navigate new places.

Using Sights to See is akin to building a personalized guidebook. First, the user goes to the Add a Guide screen, and enters the name of any city or locale. For example, typing in “Miami” connects them to the Internet site Geonames. Immediately, more than 50 separate entries appear on a scrolling list, including not only American cities Miami, Fl; Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach; and Miami Beach; but also Miami, Columbia; Miami, Canada; and Miami, Sierra Leone. Next, the user selects exactly the entry in which they are interested and taps Save. This adds the disambiguated entry to the Guides section, where it appears on a scrolling list, accompanied by the city’s national flag.

From the Guides section selecting any city will open its own page. The first entry is the city itself, and tapping it downloads and saves the entire Wikipedia article, specially optimized for display on the iPhone. Most articles include the useful “Sight Stats” which provide a thumbnail summary. Using the example above, tapping the Find Sights Near button for Miami Beach, FL, brings up a scrolling list of the top 20+ tourist attractions in proximity, each of which can be searched in Wikipedia and saved along with photos and maps on the page dedicated to Miami Beach, Florida.

Feature Highlights:

* Create customized, up-to-date Guidebooks using free Internet services
* Guidebooks may contain hundreds of different cities, locales, and attractions
* Condenses many print Guidebooks into a single, interactive, mobile tool
* Add custom locations and information not found on Internet services
* Choose Sights Near Me button anywhere in the world for immediate suggestions
* Set preferences for measurements in miles or kilometers
* Each sight includes a high resolution street map for local navigation
* Set search radius from 3 to 21 miles / 5 to 35 km
* Version 1.1 includes interactive maps – tap marker to identify sight
* Version 1.1 includes GPS location on all maps, even saved, without roaming charges
* Version 1.1 features Sight Stats, collapsible tables beginning each article
* iPad native version in development

Maps are zoomable, and have the 26 most important places of interest labeled by number. Users can scroll by number through sights on maps containing multiple, overlapping markers. The sightseer may easily plan out their itinerary using the maps, photos, and descriptions. When within the boundaries of any map, the user’s iPhone GPS keeps track of location without any costly connection charges. The GPS also uses the saved map to calculate directions and distance. And while the app is written in English, it can be set for the ten most often used languages when performing Wikipedia lookups and downloads: English, Japanese, German, Spanish, French, Polish, Italian, Russian, Portuguese, and Dutch.

“Sights to See makes print Guidebooks obsolete,” commented company CEO Hilton Lipschitz. “It includes so many powerful features; saves the latest maps, photos, and descriptions free; and is so easy to take along.”
