SoundGrid

To put it simply, SoundGrid by developer Vitally Pronkin is the creme de la creme of matrix sequencer apps for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Inspired by Yamaha’s famous Tenori-on and popular ToneMatrix webapp, SoundGrid allows you to create stunning musical compositions on your Smartphone in just a matter of minutes.  Simply touch your finger anywhere on the grid to start plotting your music.  Press the play button to hear your sounds come to life.  As the SoundGrid loops you’ll be able to easily decifer if your sound placement makes sense.  Simply touch additional blocks to place and remove sounds.  From there you can easily add layers and mix together a plethora of different sounds and patterns.

Sound complicated?  Don’t worry, it’s not!  SoundGrid is designed to appeal to both novices and experts.  The interface is simple enough for even the most green musician to quickly and easily create catchy tunes.  For the matrix sequencing expert there are top notch features such as multiple patterns, control over looping, tempo adjustment and real-time filters and effects to create unique sounds.  You can manufacturer as many as 8 sound patterns per layer, and up to 8 layers per Sound Bank.  Not to mention you can create an unlimitted number of Sound Banks!  At any time you can name, save, and share your Sound Bank’s with others.  In addition to sharing, you can also browse and import other users Sound Bank’s directly into your SoundGrid.

SoundGrid performed well during all of our rigorous testing.  We were thoroughly impressed with it’s audio and visual performance as well as it’s seemingly comprehensive list of features.  I myself am no musician, but after a few minutes of playing around was able to put together some rather amusing beats.  As a matter of fact if you download SoundGrid you’ll be able to find one of my personal compelations in the “Community” section of the app.  I named it ”Le Excellance” by SlapApp.com…check it out!

All in all SoundGrid is a must have if you’re looking for a top notch music app.  It may seem slightly overwhelming and/or confusing at first to those that are unfamiliar with matrix sequencer apps, but don’t fret.  The app developer has put together some helpful info and some video demos for you to check out.  As far as matrix sequencer apps are concerned, look no further, SoundGrid is the one to get!
