Are you into those challenging boardwalk and carnival style games that test your finesse, patience, and ability to problem solve? If so, step right up and give it your best shot! Spill Da’ Milk by Skyworks Interactive, Inc. delivers good graphics, compelling game play, and of course stuffed toy prizes for those that master the skill of throwing a baseball with pinpoint accuracy.
The object is to knock down as many milk bottles as possible with one throw of the baseball. Spill Da’ Milk has two games modes, “Quick Play” where you get unlimited baseballs to knock down as many bottles as possible before time runs out, and “Progressive Play” mode which provides six-bottle stacks, bonus bottles scattered throughout, and multi-level gameplay.
Aiming the baseballs took some time to get used to because the target is positioned above the ball, though this makes sense so you can actually see where you are placing the target. Touch the ball and take your aim, then whip your finger towards the target with a quick flick of the finger. Practice is the only way you’ll get the hang of flicking the balls accurately. Once I got accustomed to the target positions and touch/finger movements, the game became fairly easy and responded just as I had intended.
There were a few moments where the game lagged and became sluggish, which definitely throws off your timing when throwing the balls. Maybe an update can deliver smoother overall game play. It would also have been nice to see more variety with the prizes. The replay appeal of Spill Da’ Milk is decent because of the different game modes and the curiosity factor of wondering what kind of prize you will earn next. Though I couldn’t help but feel somewhat bored and unengaged after a got a few rounds in. It’s possible that the addition of more game modes could help add more value, though I think the issue is really more in the overall gameplay, as it loses it’s luster after a bit.
All in all, I like the idea of bringing carnival an boardwalk based games to the iPhone. It opens up a lot of possibilities and gives you quick and challenging moments where you can test your skill level without becoming too involved or invested in a game. Spill Da’ Milk delivers on that note. Some users may have trouble adjusting to the skewed aim control setup, get frustrated with the occasional freeze or sluggish glitch, or become bored and look for more pizazz other games may offer but most should enjoy the game for what it is; an easy game to pick up, one that brings good graphics and multiple game modes with a boardwalk theme. I picked this one up under the FREE promotion Skyworks Interactive was running so I can’t complain. Once (or if) it goes to a paid app, I would think anything over a .99 price-point would be too high. I’d like to think that other boardwalk themed games are soon to follow.
