Yet another app riding on the success of Doodle Jump’s bouncing game system, Freaky Jump injects some new concepts that hardly come across as creative but breathes fresh life into the genre.

To start off, Freaky Jump follows the same concept of bouncing off platforms and advancing to the top. However, the difference lies in the fact that Freaky Jump does not consist of one infinitely long level where your objective is to get a high score. Instead, you are required to reach a certain height before moving on to the next level. In short, stages and levels replace a free jump mode.

Add-ons such as propeller caps and rockets are also present in Freaky Jump. However, a magnet is also available to further boost high scores. Springs found in Doodle Jump and other similar games can also be found in Freaky Jump, giving a slight boost to gamers. However, unlike in Doodle Jump, players are unable to shoot projectiles in Freaky Jump.

Freaky Jump requires players to complete all the stages in one “world” before moving on to the next. While the concept of levels and stages in a traditionally open-mode genre is rather fresh, it soon becomes stale for levels are virtually identical to each other with the obvious reshuffling of tile placements being what sets them apart. With the completion of each level, stars are given based on the points accumulated, but they hardly do anything to bolster game progress.

Achievements are also available for fanatics, but that is hardly anything to fuss or rave about. It is insignificant as it does not contribute much to actual game play.

Pros:

Level system instead of infinite mode.
Slightly different from run of the mill jumping games.

Cons:

Levels are not very varied. Only background and slight platform changes.
Not much incentive to continue playing the game (e.g. unlockable content)

Essentially a mobile site for these forums, it allows you to partake in forum discussions anywhere and anytime as long as you have a working network connection. ProBoards presents you with a selection numbering in the thousands, from which you can choose from many categories to suit your personal interests. Following which, you can choose to save the boards of your choice for easy access in the future.

The simplicity of the app is lovable. There are no frills, and no fanciful features to distract you. Everything is presented in one neat page for your scrolling and reading pleasure. Forum signatures are not displayed, making load times much faster. How many times have you had a page take forever to load because one user chose to use a massive image for his signature? Forum posts just include the avatar and content, nothing more. There is even a toggle for users to choose if they want the avatars to be shown or not!

Organization wise, ProBoards groups everything neatly in categories and folders. Each section of a forum board is neatly categorized through folders, which in turn have tabs to separate the sticky threads from the normal ones, and a separate tab containing the announcement. All this adds to the wonderful user experience, making it easy to access sites that do not have mobile skin support.

At $2.99, this is one app that is really handy to have. While the steep price might not be justifiable for some, users who frequently access online message boards will love the convenience it brings as well as not having to deal with ridiculous skin templates that sometimes prove to be an eyesore.

No huge images to slow down your surfing experience.

Cons:

Price is a little too high.

The big buzz word circling the Internet these days is privacy. We’ve all become addicted to Facebook, but many of us have no idea how exposed our personal information is to advertisers and snoops. Privacy for Facebook is a handy little app that displays all of the critical account settings that will make your account ultra private, so only you and your friends can see your personal info. It’s quick, it’s easy, and when you’re done your info will be adequately protected from salivating advertisers.

Mobile Distortion designed Privacy for Facebook to be mindless. Essentially, it asks you to login to your Facebook account, and then displays the account settings pages that matter. It provides you with a brief overview of what the settings on each page mean and provides you with a recommendation on what they should be. All you have to do is alter your settings on each page, press next when you’re done, and after completing all of the appropriate settings Privacy for Facebook lets you know you’re done. Some may find that their settings are already perfect, but my guess is the majority of your won’t. Privacy for Facebook isn’t flashy, but for $0.99 you can be 100% that what you and your friends want to see and share on Facebook stays between you and your friends.

Overall I think if you’re a Facebook user and want to make sure that future employers, stalkers, ex-boyfriends/girlfriends, and the like aren’t able to find you and view all your personal pics, messages, and info, then Privacy for Facebook is definitely an app worth having. Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t an app you’ll use every day. You’ll use it once and then store it away for safe keeping (i.e. for the next time Facebook updates their privacy settings). But at a price of $0.99, it’s a small amount to pay for complete privacy.

Pros:

Great guide for helping people keep their Facebook info private from employers, predators, and advertisers
Very easy to use; a monkey could do it

Cons:

Displays Facebook normal view (not mobile) so you have to zoom in to view settings and descriptions

Stick Golf

Whatever you do don’t overlook Stick Golf! Created by Noodlecake games, this 2D platformer looks ultra plain and super simple, but once you play it you’ll be hooked. There’s no need to judge yardage, make proper club selections, read puts, and all that jazz. All you do is choose your angle select your swing power and let it fly! Crazy winds and 54 crazily laid out holes on 6 unique courses await.

In Stick Golf every course is completely different, each one progressively harder than the next. There are two levels of difficulty, easy and hard. I myself was able to move through all 6 courses in easy mode relatively quickly. When I say quick, it probably took me an hour in total, broken up into 4 fifteen minute attempts throughout the day. Hard mode is a different animal altogether. The courses are the exact same except there is seriously hard wind that blows in ever changing directions. It’s some seriously hard stuff. It definitely adds staying power to the game. I can see people unlocking all the courses in easy mode like I did, but then making it their life’s mission to complete all the courses in hard mode with an even par or better score.

I pretty much like everything about this game. Each hole can be both easy and hard depending on how much risk you take and how well you execute each shot. The same hole that takes the average person 5 strokes can be conquered in just one if you make the perfect swing. On the flip side if being too risky with your shot selection can quickly come back to haunt your. I put up several 10′s, 15′s, and even 20+’s on the harder holes. Unlike traditional golf games, he pace of play in Stick Golf is super fast and rather noncommittal. Each course is only 9 holes so you can sneak a round in even if you only have 5-10 minutes to play. I definitely love that aspect of it. The only thing I think needs immediate tweaking is that if you get a phone call while playing the game isn’t saved. It’s not all that bad but if you’re in the middle of a record round and mom calls you probably won’t be too happy. Aside from that minor tweak that I’m sure is in the works, Stick Golf is a total winner. It’s fun, fast, challenging, and 100% worth the download.

Pros:

Really fun, fast paced, addictive
Courses are all unique; holes can be played multiple different ways
Hard mode is no joke; provides hours of fun and challenge

Cons:

Game isn’t saved if interrupted by a phone call

If you liked ArtStudio for iPhone/iPod touch then you’re going to absolutely love ArtStudio for iPad by Lucky Clan! This app is hands down the best drawing and painting app currently available for the iPad. It’s got tons and tons of features wrapped up into a clean, simple, and elegantly designed UI. I’m no professional artist, but with the help of the in app tutorials I was drawing people’s faces, cartoon characters, and animals in no time!

The iPad provides the ultimate canvas for ArtStudio to do it’s thang. The preciseness of the pencil, the delicateness of the paintbrush, the airiness of the spray paint, all with just the touch of a finger is quite remarkable. In includes just about every feature imaginable for you to create high quality digital paintings, cartoons, sketches, etc. You can customize colors, create various shapes free hand or by guide, create multi-layer images, import and export images, view and submit photos to the online gallery, learn from tips, tricks, and tutorials, and much more. If you’re an avid user of photoshop on your PC or notebook then you’ll feel right at home with ArtStudio for iPad. The quality and depth of features is definitely comparable.

Overall I found ArtStudio for iPad to be a top notch app and well worth the download. The quality is second to none, and the responsiveness and accuracy using both both my fingers and padded stylus were flawless. I’m no artist, but I keep finding myself opening the app and doodling. My creations by no means rival the masterpieces posted in ArtStudio for iPad’s Flickr gallery, but the quality of my doodles seems to keep getting better the more I mess around with it. In my mind, whether you’re a professional artist, a part time doodler, or have kids just learning how to finger paint, ArtStudio for iPad is a 100% snatching up.

The accuracy using just your fingers is top notch

Ninjatown: Trees Of Doom!

Climb, leap, bounce, and swing your way up the perilous trees of doom! Ninjatown: Trees Of Doom!, created by Venan Entertainment Inc., is a cleanly designed and executed samurai twist to the popular category of endless climber games. In this game you’ve got to use your stealthy ninja skills to leap upward from tree to tree while avoiding progress yielding hazards and life ending obstacles and monsters. Fine tuned coordination and precise timing and placement are a must if you’re to compete on the global stage.

If you like Doodle Jump, or other endless climber games then you’re definitely going to like Ninjatown. To play the game well you’ve got to fight the urge to tap without thinking. To get your ninja climbing all you have to do is tap on the left or right side of the screen. Hold your finger down to keep climbing or tap your finger on the opposite side of the screen to leap over to the other tree. Each tree is lined with obstacles that you must avoid. There are tree bark-less areas that are slick and require constant side-to-side leaping to get past, gooey dark syrup and flying devils that kill you if you touch them.

As you’d expect from endless climbing games there are various skip aheads and power ups that help you shortcut the climb. Mushrooms serve as spring boards giving you an often helpful added bounce, tree branches serve as pole vaults launching you beyond areas that are too far to jump, bubble gum shields temporarily protect you from harm, candy smoke bombs help you vanish into thin air, and floating mustaches surge you up long distances like a hot air balloon.

Most of the time you’ll want to take full advantage of every skip ahead you can find, but at times you need to excercise caution because they can be neatly tucked along side death inducing hazards so one minor miscalculation and it’s curtains. Tree branches can be rather hazardous when used carelessly. When hanging on a tree branch you need to slide your finger downward like you’re drawing back a bow string. Depending on how far back you pull the branch it’ll launch you in three different locations. So if you let it fly without selecting the best option you’ll often be signing your death certificate.

Overall I really liked Ninjatown: Trees Of Doom! It’s a solid game that’ll keep you engaged time and time again. The graphics are good, the functionality and game-play are simple yet challenging, and for the price I feel like you get a good value. There was only really one area that kept Ninjatown from getting a top rating and that was originality. The game has it’s own subtly unique qualities (controls and characters), but by and large it has a lot of similar features and functionality to Doodle Jump so I had to dock it a full mark just for that. The only other thing worth mentioning, although it’s really minor, is I found the in-game music to get a little monotonous after a while, so adding additional music options in the future would be nice. But, aside from those two minor nit picks, Ninjatown: Trees Of Doom! is without a doubt a top notch app and definitely worthy of a spot on your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad.

Pros:

Addictive, fun, challenging, and offers decent replay ability
Great sounds and graphics; good value for the price
Easy to figure out game controls, ideal for both kids and adults
Plus+ global leaderboard and Facebook and Twitter integration

Cons:

In-game music gets a little monotonous after a while

This cute little app provides you with serious, humorous, and custom tailored predictions and advice. Anytime you’re looking to get a sneak peak into the future just tap Robodamus and he’ll consult his never been wrong crystal ball.

Ok, so maybe Robodamus really can’t predict the future, but if you use him right you can definitely get a kick out of convincing others that he does! Created by James Purdy, Robodamus is uniquely designed to provide 3 specific types of fortune: insults, philosophical, and one’s you make up yourself. Now, depending on your preference you can customize the probability that Robodamus will give a specific type. Using a simple slider you can adjust whether you want more, less, or none at all of particular types. So if you’d like more insults than serious, just slide the Humor slider over to the right and slide the Serious and Custom sliders to the left. You can slide any of them all the way to the left to completely exclude them. It’s as simple as that.

For myself, I prefer the serious ones. It gives me something to look forward to. However, if you’ve got some gullible friends then you will definitely want to beef up your custom ones. Adding a custom fortune is really easy. All you’ve got to do is type it in and save it. Robodamus then plucks from your customs at random. So, if you’re dating someone you really like just conjure up some romantic diddies and introduce your boo to the wonders of Robodamus!

Robodamus is the type of app that’s entertainment value relies solely on the creativity of it’s beholder. If you’re a bit of a prankster and really creative you’ll get a total kick out of it. You can get gullible people thinking that the app is genius and you can convince significant others that you guys are meant to be! But, if you’re as sharp as a butter knife and have the social skills of a gnat then you probably won’t enjoy this app as much. Just running it for standard fortunes has short lived entertainment value.

Overall the sounds and graphics the app provides are really sweet. If I could change anything about the app it’d be to make Robodamus talk. I feel like he should recite the fortunes verbally and maybe even laugh at you a little bit when you get an insulting fortune. Maybe even give a serious look or gasp if he reveals a not so good fortune. Currently he’s somewhat personality-less because aside from swinging into view and revolving his robotic hands he’s more or less a stiff. I’d also love to see Twitter and Facebook integrated so peoples fortunes can be posted for all their friends to see.

Pros:

Great sounds and graphics
Easy to use interface
Creating custom fortunes can be really funny if you’re creative
Over 270 included fortunes

Cons:

I wish Robodamus talked and interacted more
