Apparently Pinterest is every woman’s dream!

Before we even delve into the review of this app you should know we made it a point to have one of our male associates review it. The thinking being the longer we could keep the women staffers in the dark the better as this platform seems to be so engrossing to the female persuasion all else stops. This would be very detrimental to us as the women in our lives run everything in the first place so we can’t imagine what would happen if they knew Pinterest was in the house. Now the cats out of the bag.

Pinterest wisdom well spoken

With that said the app delivers just like the platform. It rolls everything up in a nice tight bundle and smells better than the scented potpourri in the halls. This is not just another platform hoping to jump on the social media bandwagon, Pinterest has hit the ground running and is currently the fastest growing social media in history. It appears to be a combination of both Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr. In a sense that users are able to view pictures in a scrapbook format neatly categorized according to their preferred niche areas.

Some pins to admire

Essentially, this means users can pin up their interests for other users to view. Thus the name of the app, Pinterest.

To join Pinterest, users have to obtain an invite from an existing member. Unfortunately at the time of this review, an invite was not granted and so this review will focus on the aspects that are available for all to see.

Great for showing off the gowns

Think of Pinterest as a message board similar to the many different niche forums scattered across the internet. Replace the threads within with posts similar to that of Instagram, and sort them in a format similar to Tumblr’s scrapbook design. After that, add in Twitter’s timeline method of presentation and you have Pinterest.

Pinterest Home sweet home

Despite being a social network, there really is not much social interaction on this app. Pinterest serves more as a marketing tool, drawing viewers and audiences to products whether intended or not. As a relatively young site compared to the heavyweights in the industry, the success and appeal of Pinterest remains to be seen. In the meantime, why not give it a go and see how you like it for yourself?

The iNSTA-PRO iPhone app turns an iPhone 3G S into a virtual golf teaching machine. It comes with slick features and an assortment of tools that’ll help you video tape, analyze, document, and improve your swing, all directly from your iPhone.

The iNSTA-PRO app allows you to record and analyze your swing from multiple angles so you’re able to get a good visual on your overall swing technique. The app comes with drawing tools that help you analyze and improve on key swing fundamentals such as setup, head and ball position, takeaway, swing plane, width, and arch, weight transfer, release, and follow through. There are circles that you can use to measure angles and to highlight areas that you need to keep still during your swing such as your head and back knee. There are lines that you can insert at any angle that help you analyze things such as knee and head position, shaft and shoulder angles, and swing plane. On top of these tools The iNSTA-PRO also gives you hands on control to play, pause, and scroll forward or back so you can analyze each and every position throughout your swing. You can even turn your iPhone 3G S sideways to view and compare two different swings at the same time.

In addition to its handy swing analysis tools, The iNSTA-PRO also serves as a swing log. For each swing recorded you can document the date, golfer’s name, course, club, strength, and result of the swing. So basically, you can crank out a swing, record that you sliced the crap out of it, and then can use the swing analysis tools to identify all parts of your swing that went wrong. Likewise, if you cranked out a solid swing with a nice subtle draw, you can log the result, go back and review the tape, and identify everything that you did right.

Alright, let’s get down to business. I’ve been playing golf for most of my life. I worked as a cart boy for 5 years, played for my high school golf team, am a member of a country club, and have been known to wager a couple of greenbacks on a round from time-to-time. Although I’m not a pro, I’m very familiar with golf techniques, fundamentals, and teaching principles. Lucky for me, three of my good friends are certified PGA teaching professionals one of which played on the Senior PGA Tour for a brief stint. Because of this I get VIP access to the video equipment at my country club. The iNSTA-PRO app literally has all of the same tools that equipment does. Now don’t get me wrong. The difference in camera quality is night and day, but it should be for how much my country club paid for the setup. In all honesty, you really don’t need HD quality video to adequately perform swing analysis. Just having the ability to capture and analyze your swing on any kind of video is a major help. Throw in the extra tools to mark, measure, compare, and critique your swing and it becomes a really helpful practice tool.

Unfortunately for me, a major snow storm hit the Washington, D.C. area last weekend so I wasn’t able to take The iNSTA-PRO out to the range for a full test. The best that I could do was to solicit the help of a friend, grab a club out of my bag, and let loose a couple of practice swings inside. The biggest weakness I found with the app was that without the help of a stabilization device like a table or a tripod, it was kind of difficult to keep the iPhone perfectly steady. Having a perfectly still video doesn’t hamper you from getting good feedback on your swing, but it does somewhat limit the benefit of some of the drawing tools. For example, if you’ve circled your head and your knee because you want to see if you’re keeping them still and in place throughout your swing, it’s a little harder to tell if you’re successfully doing it when your iPhone is shaking while recording. So, for best results I recommend you have something with you that you can rest the iPhone on to keep it steady while filming.

If there were something else I’d like to see added to this app it’d be a section with golf swing instructional videos. It’d be great if users could view swing fundamentals videos and then compare them side-by-side with their own swing videos. All in all, I found the The iNSTA-PRO app to be fairly comprehensive, easy to use, and thought it worked pretty well. To be able to enjoy all of the apps features you’ll need to have an iPhone 3G S. If used properly I can see this app being a nice tool to have with you the next time you practice your golf swing.

The popular online logic based puzzle game Strimko hits the iPhone and iPod Touch app market with a bang. To put it simply this game sets a new bar for logic based puzzle apps. Strimko is fun, addictive, challenging, rich with features, jam packed with brain twisting logic puzzles, all packed into one extremely user friendly interface that’s been well thought out and is sprinkled with “nice-to-have” features that help make the game experience exceptional. It’s the type of game that you pick up and don’t put down.

If you’re not already familiar with Strimko, it’s a number based puzzle game that forces you to use logic to solve puzzles. Essentially you’re provided with a grid that contains a few prepopulated numbers, and it’s your job to complete the grid without having two of the same numbers in the same row, side by side, or in the same stream. As simple as this sounds, you’ll quickly realize it’s not. The further you advance in the game the more crucial it is that you apply sound logic with every number that you place. You’re assured not to get very far in this game if you don’t.

So what do you get with Strimko? Well, for one thing you get quality puzzles. Strimko hasn’t been developed by an inexperienced puzzle loving amateur living rent free in their parent’s basement. Strimko puzzles are all hand designed and difficulty graded by puzzle pros. It comes with over 20 hours worth of continuous gameplay comprised of 120 unique never been published puzzles, ranging from 4×4 to 7×7 patterns, 4 levels of difficulty, in game hints if you need it, and more. Not to mention, if you’re a Strimko solving machine, you can add additional puzzle packs via in-game purchasing.

One thing I noticed while playing Strimko was that every button, feature, and control were all where I wanted them to be. Quokka Studios went the extra mile when they developed this app and it shows. Not once did I find myself confused, lost, or in want of additional features. The game’s graphics, colors, sounds, instructions, layout, extras, and gameplay are all perfect. I wouldn’t change a thing. Not to mention, there’s a really slick iPod integration feature that allows you to access and control your iPod from within the app. This was easily my favorite feature. I think other apps should take note on this one. The moment I got my songs playing and submersed myself in the game, I played for nearly an hour and didn’t even know it. So far I’ve made it through 11 of the easy puzzles, leaving me 109 more puzzles to go! Not sure how for I’ll get but I definitely plan on finding out!

Whether you’re into puzzle games or not you should definitely check out Strimko. If you’re the type that likes to test drive the car before you buy it, then download the free lite version and take it for a spin. It’ll give you just enough of a taste to see what I’m talking about. I found Strimko to be extremely fun and addictive and without a doubt 100% worth the purchase. I recommend it to everyone.

What will the iPhone on Verizon mean for AT&T and iPhone App Developers?

According to a statement made yesterday, by a Wall Street analyst, Apple is seriously considering dropping its exclusive deal with AT&T next year. This is great news for Verizon customers who are sick and tired of being marketed so-called iPhone killers that end up being little more than iPhone pretenders. Now the million dollar question becomes, how will the anticipation of the iPhone on the Verizon network affect AT&T’s iPhone sales in the U.S.? For years AT&T has enjoyed skyrocketing sales as well as unheard of new subscriber growth due to customers switching carriers for the iPhone. Now that we’re just months away from the possibility of the best carrier network in the U.S. offering the iPhone, how will the network plagued by dropped calls (counter to their advertising claims) fair out? I’m sure you’ve all noticed the 3G marketing push that Verizon’s been doing for the last month or two. They’re boasting how much larger their 3G network is than AT&T’s (There’s a map for that!). Many see these ads as an early marketing attempt to entice users into waiting to buy an iPhone until it’s available on Verizon.

Currently Apple makes somewhere in the neighborhood of $450 per iPhone sold. It’s widely known that AT&T takes a financial hit each time an iPhone is purchased. However, because the iPhone demands a feature rich cell plan, AT&T makes wheelbarrows full of cash after customers have owned there iPhone for a couple years. Certainly Verizon wouldn’t ink such a deal, but Apple has eyes on Verizon’s huge market share and will probably be willing to make much less just to get some skin in the game. Can you imagine the shift that iPhone on Verizon will do to the mobile industry in the U.S.? It’ll without a doubt accelerate the phasing out of traditional cell phones in exchange for smart phones. Don’t get me wrong, stats have clearly showed this trend occurring over the last two years; however the rate of change will increase tremendously. Imagine the added impact if Apple waits until landing Verizon to launch their long awaited and widely rumored iPhone nano.

How will the introduction of Verizon affect iPhone App Developers?

With the potential for the iPhone owner community to effectively double over night with the addition of Verizon, what will that mean for app developers and the App Store? Well, one thing’s for sure it’ll definitely have a huge impact on the number of apps available and the number of downloads. With the current AT&T only customer base, the App Store reached two billion downloads in a year and a half. Imagine what that number will look like after Verizon steps in. Imagine how much of a premium that’ll put on having your iPhone app highly visible to consumers. It’s certainly not a time for your app to be buried!

Due to its popularity the App Store has evolved in such a way that only those who take it seriously and execute continuous and effective marketing campaigns are successful. Timely press releases, buzz generating previews, pre-release promo videos, post release announcements, demo videos, social media profiles, dedicated websites/micro-sites, and SEO for each are integral parts of an effective marketing campaign. Equally as important are unbiased 3^rd party reviews of your app. Having your app reviewed by popular app review sites creates much more awareness for your app than you can create on your own. If you’re a compulsive shopper and always looking for a bargain then you might just like iDeals. iDeals is a shopping app that provides you with anytime, anywhere access to the same deals listed on DODTracker.com. iDeals essentially aggregates deals from other popular shopping sites and deal-of-the-day sites like Woot!, Daily Steals, Deadly Deal, Buy.com, EB Game, and many more. The app functions much like a typical affiliate shopping site on the web, you can link directly to the merchant site though the app to complete your purchase. From the apps main menu you can choose between All Deals, One-a-Day Sites, Computers & Electronics, Sports & Apparel, Music & Entertainment, Home & Kitchen, and Miscellaneous. Regardless of which one you choose the app quickly updates the screen with a constant influx of items to choose from.

App Plusses:

Imports deals very quickly. We were impressed by how smoothly it ran.

App Minusses:

The purchase process lacks luster. The app links to affiliate sites so you’re viewing a web page optimized for a computer from within the app instead of pages and forms that are optimized for the iPhone. We think this is a major deterrent for completing purchases from within the app.
The affiliate sites we saw within the app while shopping looked less than trust worthy. Many of the product and sales pages looked plain and slapped together, images used to display products were of low resolution, some of which were too small to adequately view on an iPhone or iPod touch.
No price comparisons. It’s difficult to tell whether or not you’re actually getting a deal without exiting the app to perform your own price comparisons.
Items are displayed in what appears to be a random order. Users should have the ability to filter through the selection so they can view by item type, brand, etc.

Two words can be used to sum up ZenTap Pro: Excellent app! If you’re anything like me, and use your iPhone to write and respond to literally all of your emails then ZenTap Pro, created by ZenBrains, is a must have app. As good as the iPhone’s built in dictionary and autocorrection technology is, I still continue to send out email after email with often embarrussing spelling and functuation errors (see what I mean). This is fine and good when you’re emailing your friends, but when you’re trying to make a serious point for work and you send out a horribly botched email with what looks like 3rd grade spelling errors and in some cases words that inadvertently resemble curse words (guilty as charged), you kinda put yourself in an awkward position. Wouldn’t it be cool to have a super-sick text editor app that can solve all of these problems?!?! Well now there is, and it’s called ZenTap Pro!

ZenTap Pro increases productivity and eliminates inadvertent misspellings entirely! With its top notch text edititing capabilities including an uber-intelligent text prediction system (helps you type 2-5 strokes faster than without it), spell-checking, templates system, customized buttons that allow you to define shortcuts for special characters (big plus), ability to change font size, the ability to save what you’ve typed so you can come back to it later, and the ability to export what you’ve typed directly into email, SMS, and Safari, ZenTap Pro is the real deal!

It’d make an excellent companion right next to your email and SMS icons.

There were many times in the past while jamming to tunes that I wish I had an easy and convenient way to access my iPod controls without having to unlock my iPhone.
