Fill up the bathtub, toss in some toys, and let the rubber ducky loose! WINDiT, a new game from Flambe Studios, is a dodge and destroy game where you navigate rubber duckies and other childhood bathtub toys around in water obstacles to collect life savers for health and life rafts with invisible survivors in them. Each level requires you to capture a certain number of life rafts to advance. Grab them as quickly as you can while avoiding damage and you’ll see yourself in the winners circle in no time.

WINDiT is tailored with children in mind, but meant for people of all ages to play. To collect life rafts and health you need to tilt your iPhone/iPod touch/iPad. Tilting forward slows you down, tilting back speeds you up, and side-to-side glides you laterally across the water. Littered in the water ahead are a multitude of obstacles. Big and little buoys, unpredictable ships, runaway beach balls, and more cloud the way and make collecting health and life rafts difficult. You’ve got a powerful cannon that can blast these items to oblivion, but it takes precision shooting to adequately eliminate your targets. Firing the cannon aimlessly isn’t advised because not only does it eliminate obstacles, but it eliminates life rafts and health too. Another defense mechanism at your disposal is hurricane winds. If you blow into the speaker it’ll clear it’ll whipe out everything on the playing surface. This feature is cool, but it’s a bit awkward to invoke so you take a bit of a risk each time you try to use it.

In this game you can choose from a variety of toys to use such as a rubber ducky, toy boat, paper boat, wooden raft, pirate, ship, aircraft carrier. Each one has different advantages and disadvantages from the next. My personal favorite is the pirate ship because it’s smaller, sleeker, and fits through small windows. There are 3 different levels (bathtub, ocean, and river), each one significantly more challenging than the next, offering 7 missions a piece. Personally I was able to get through the first 7 missions in just a few tries, but after that it got trickier. I think the biggest key is getting the feel for moving laterally. It takes some getting used to because the toys don’t move with perfect precision, they sort of meander from side to side and slide a little further than you might want. You can tweak the sensitivity in the settings section so you can get it just right for your taste.

I found WINDiT to be pretty challenging. It takes some getting used to at first, but once you’ve got the hang of maneuvering and firing the cannong you’ll be able to get pretty far. Once you get about 7 missions deep the importance of being able to properly gauge the speed of play is critical. Earlier stages you can just move left-to-right and get by with minimal damage, however as the levels get harder you need to be able to speed up and slow down play (forward and backward tilt) while you swerve left-to-right, because obstacles coming toward you also move very quickly laterally. You’ll take on a ton of damage consecutively if you don’t maximize all aspects of the games controls.

Overall I found WINDiT to be an okay game. For whatever reason I didn’t find it to be particularly fun. I like the childish theme, in fact that’s what drew me to the game, but the fun factor just wasn’t there for me. I can safely say that the quality of the overall game, the challenge it presents, and the number of levels and options it has certainly makes it worth its $0.99 price point, however due to the lack of fun factor I think it’s a game that some will like and others will find kind of boring. I myself plowed through 8 levels and instead of feeling a relentless desire to keep playing I more or less felt like I’d had enough. I’m not sure exactly what to suggest that would make it more fun, but I definitely felt the fun factor was lacking. Given the bathtub and rubber ducky theme I’d say WINDiT is probably a decent game for kids. The theme should register well with youngsters, but I’d say anyone under the age of 10 probably won’t get very far in the game.

Pros:

Cute theme, great toys, nice graphics
Decent number of levels, pretty challenging

Cons:

Not the most addictive game; might get bored with it quickly

Yogo The Turtle

In the peaceful turtle town of Mongundo Village life was good. The land was beautiful, it’s turtle residents where happy, and the most important thing on everyone’s mind was who will win the annual spinner jumping contest. Yogo The Turtle, the villages top dog in this contest, had one it four years in row prior to dominating the competition yet again. While gathering in front of the sacred rock for the awards ceremony, aliens unexpectedly flew down from the sky and took away the villages sacred rock. The sacred rock is what brought all the beauty, peace, and harmony to the land. It made the spinners spin, which turned a stark desert into the plentiful and vast green landscape that it is today. Now, with the future of the village in jeopardy, Yogo The Turtle must set out to reclaim the sacred rock from the aliens.

Created by DigiTalented LLC, Yogo The Turtle is an engaging adventure that requires players to master simultaneous use of the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad accelerometer against a ticking clock and a variety of time shrinking obstacles. Yogo can leap high into the air with the swipe of a finger, and can move from side-to-side both on the ground and in the air with a tilt of your device. Yogo leaps and bounds his way up levels bouncing from spinner to spinner, avoiding time subtracting bugs and insects, and collecting points building and time replenishing fruits.

To complete levels you’ve must advance Yogo from the bottom to the top of each level by hitching rides on the colorful yet tricky spinners. Yogo sticks to spinners like glue, and the longer he stands on them the faster they spin. Arrows appear while riding on spinners, helping to guide you to the next closest one. Round and round he goes until you swipe you finger and leap. While in the air you must tilt your device to direct Yogo toward spinners, fruits, vines, and mystery boxes filled with goodies, and away from time zapping bugs and insects.

Levels must be completed in the time allotted, which at first doesn’t seem too bad, but as you advance and the levels get harder, games can seemingly end in the blink of an eye. Why’s this? Well, if Yogo falls and hits the ground you lose valuable time. Depending on how far you fall you can lose as much as 20 seconds! In addition, when Yogo makes contacts with bugs you lose valuable time as well. In some cases you’ll find yourself hitting the same bugs over and over because they’re either strategically located nearby a spinner, or are flying around and hit you as your leaping from spinner to spinner. You can earn back lost time by collecting fruit, so it’s a good idea to grab as much as you can whenever possible. You’ll definitely need it more and more as you progress in the game.

To add to the challenge Yogo The Turtle migrates through the air with a lot of momentum. You can guide him by tilting your device, but you need to do so with some foresight. Because Yogo leaps while spinning rapidly, he’s often flung away from your intended target. Such momentum can’t be reversed instantly so you’ve got to begin tilting your device in the direction you want to go immediately after you leap. To land on targets with precision you need to get good at predicting how much tilt is required and how long you need to keep the device tilted. It’s not rocket science, but it definitely makes the game more engaging and challenging, which I like a lot.

Overall Yogo The Turtle reminds me a bit of teenage mutant ninja turtles, has a bit of a drawn out story at the beginning (you’ll see what I’m talking about), but really is a fun and well put together game. The graphics, sounds, levels, and game-play are really nicely executed. I found the game engaging and hard to put down. I think most will roll through the first 3-4 levels with ease, but before you know it will be working really hard to beat the clock and minimize mistakes. Yogo The Turtle is a great game for all ages of players; both kids and adults. Definitely don’t hesitate snatching this bad boy up!

Ninja Chicken

Fast-paced memory, matching, and drag and drop game-play comes to you “correck” in the curiously addictive Ninja Chicken! It’s time to save the day and administer justice as you rescue the ninja chickens from immanent death and remove the evil pigs that put them there. With 4 levels of game-play (easy, medium, hard, and master), 8 different stages, and forty finger flying levels, it’ll take a real touch screen ninja to succeed!

Created by Kongzong Corporation, Ninja Chicken is all about memory, coordination, and precision. Each level serves up a non-stop conveyor belt filled with ninja chickens, evil pigs, and robot chickens. As you graduate through the levels the conveyor belt changes position (ex. horizontal to vertical), the number of chickens and pigs increase, the number and location of the ninja zones change, and your memorization of the location of each ninja zone will be tested.

As the conveyor belt churns you need to quickly decide what to do with it’s inhabitants. To save the ninja chickens from the jaws of death you need to quickly drag them into their matching ninja zone (ex. purple ninja chickens go to purple ninja zone). Although you’d love to leave the evil pigs to meet their demise you can’t, so you’ve got to also quickly remove them from the conveyor belt, although you don’t move them into the ninja zones, you need to drag them into the open space in between the ninja zones. The robot chickens, although tempting to touch, you must avoid at all costs. If you touch them you get valuable points deducted. Along the way your success is rewarded with fortune pockets full of surprises. Make sure to touch these before they disappear. They’re filled with crystal (bonus points), and gold which unlocks new ninjafied artwork!

In addition to the intense single player mode game-play Ninja Chicken also offers a VS mode. VS mode is a 1-on-1 setup as opposed to online or WiFi multiplayer (sigh). Players share the same device (iPhone/iPod touch/iPad), and compete head to head to see who’s touch screen ninja skills reign supreme. The VS mode is pretty fun, but it can be a little akward because with such a small screen and two people trying to swipe furiously on the same device at the same time, the iPhone slides around and you spend as much time trying to keep it straight as you do trying to beat your opponent. I’d definitely prefer if it was online and/or WiFi capable.

Overall, Ninja Chicken is a really well put together game. The artwork and graphics are great, the game-play is rich and engaging, the menus and game-boards are laid out very well, and the depth of features (4 difficulty levels, global leaderboard, levels change during game-play, etc.) all make it a game worth owning. If you’re a fan of wack-a-mole, memory, and tap coordination and timing games you’ll really enjoy Ninja Chicken. Every aspect of the game is top notch, the only thing I would change about it is VS mode. I’d love to have the option to go head-to-head over the internet.

Here’s a fast paced and fun game that’ll have you translating and matching jumbled words in no time (dljuem = jumbled = mixed). Jumbled is a word game that scrambles up regular every day words and tests your ability to correctly decipher them and match them up with a word that it most closely resembles. It sounds pretty simple, but as you progress you’ll see things can get hairy quickly. Words keep getting longer, time continues to slip away, the pressure of every decision gets greater, guessing is risky because incorrect answers take lives, and before you know it your brain is scrambled. Do you have what it takes to conquer Jumbled?

Created by DREWSE, Jumbled measures your ability to think clearly and logically under pressure. Big-time scores can only come from big-time players. The likelihood that you play the game often enough to memorize every word combination is slim. That’s because there’s over 100,000,000 possible word scrambling combinations within the game. SAY WHAT!

Jumbled caters to all levels of players by offering three levels of difficulty (easy, medium, hard). I can say first hand that easy mode has the tendency to lull you into the sense of feeling slightly genius before it quickly slaps you in the face! I cruised through the first dozen or so jumbled words thinking I was unstoppable. Once I reached the 100,000 points level I was quickly put into my place. Out of nowhere I found myself staring at words longer, the optional in game hints that display the first two letters of the word after half of the time has passed became a frequent occurrence, my brain started to go blank, and my streak of correctly answered questions quickly turned into a downward spiraling guess fest. Before I knew it I’d burned through all five of my lives!

Jumbled is best described as fun under pressure. After several attempts I became more and more comfortable with the pace and pressures of the game which helps tremendously. The faster you answer questions correctly the more points you earn and the further up the global leaderboard you climb. The games rewards you with up to 20 achievement awards if you’re kicking but, and the opportunity to compare your high scores with the rest of the Jumbled playing community provides the fuel to keep you playing time and time again.

On thing I can say for sure, Jumbled is definitely a fun and challenging game that players of all ages can enjoy. If you’re the type of person that loves time killing apps and games, and loves things like crossword puzzles, Sudoku, etc., then you’re going to absolutely love Jumbled. At first glance it’s graphics, effects, interface, and imagery aren’t very impressive, but for what lacks in looks it makes up for with fun factor. It faced paced and addictive quality will likely have you turning to it time and time again whenever you’re looking to kill some time.

Fast paced, addictive
Offers hours upon hours of game-play (100,000,000 possible word combinations)
Great for time killing and people of all ages

Cons:

Graphics, menus, and imagery are pretty basic, not mind blowing by any means
Gets a bit monotonous if you play it too many times in a row
