Years Eve fireworks show. Why such extremes? Could it be that our poo is telling us something? Well, with the help of the poolicious Poo Log app for iPhone, you can finally learn what your poo is telling you!

Poo Log, created by AvatarLabs, is based on the best selling book “What’s Your Poo Telling You?”, and is full of poo-centric features that’re sure to bring out the poo lover in all of us. Crammed inside the app are a built in journal, timer, a clever mix of poo humor, tidbits of poo trivia, and driblets of real poo-based medical information. It even tracks and graphs your poo so you can see how your bowl movements vary over time! It’s poopified theme, pooptastic humor, and brain satisfying poo trivia ensure that your next poo, no matter what kind it is, will be an enjoyable experience.

The moment Poo Log opens it’s built in poo timer starts ticking. It quietly and unasummingly counts down the time it takes for you to ”doo” the deed! If you want, you can stop and start the timer at any time just by touching it. It’s up to you what you want to do from here. You can press the POO LOG button and review your history of poos by month and day, you can press the POO PASTIMES button and test out your poo trivia and medical knowledge, or you can check out the POO GRAPH and view your latest poo trends.

Personally I recommend going straight to POO PASTIMES. I found the questions both humerous and fairly challenging. I was also rather suprised with the depth of trivia questions. I’m not sure how many total are in the app, but I played for 24 minutes straight and didn’t see the same question twice. No matter which option you select, make sure that when you’re done with your dirty business you press the NEW POO button. It’s there that the date, time, duration, total score, and description of your poo experience are captured. Classify your poo by selecting from descriptions such as Delivery: Epidural please!, Couple of pushes, no grunts, and Smooth like butter, baby. You can even add notes if you’d like to remember a little something special from your recent blooper!

What can I say? Poo Log is a pretty unique and interesting little app. If you fancy yourself a discerning poo-er you’ll certainly enjoy it. We didn’t experience any bugs or issues while testing. The only thing we noticed was one measly little typo in one of the POO PASTIMES answers. False was spelled “Flase”. Summer, summer, summer time, Summertime! I don’t know about you, but I absolutely hate daylight savings time (DST)! Why? Because I ALWAYS forget it. It’s no sweat in the fall when you gain an hours sleep, but in the spring when you lose an hour; pure hatred!

Well, one thing’s for sure, this year daylight savings time won’t be as traumatic thanks to Summertime! Summertime, an app created by Oliver Drobnik (A.K.A – Dr. Touch), is your anywhere anytime DST calculator. No matter where you live in the world, all you have to do is fire this bad-boy up and it tells you exactly how many days, hours, and minutes until the next DST switch! It even gives you helpful hints like “You can sleep an hour longer”.

Summertime isn’t jam-packed with fancy bells and whistles. It does all of it’s voodoo magic behind the scenes. Each time you open the app it taps into the iPhone’s ginormous internal timezone database and figures out whether or not DST applies where you live, and if it does when it takes place. Whether you live in the U.S. or in Europe, Summertime knows all of the magic dates. And, for the persistent mom inside all of us, Summertime has an email feature built right in so you can send all of your friends and family a reminder of the upcoming time switch! Think about it. You’ll be a hero! Ok, ok…that might be a stretch.

Alright, so what do you get when you download Summertime. Well as mentioned, you basically get one-touch access to the exact day/time/minute of the next DST switch, and the ability to send reminder emails. Yeah…I know it’s not something that you”ll use everyday, but I guess it serves it’s purpose twice a year. We definitely think this app would be best positioned as a free app instead of a paid. However, if a few more gizmo’s were added to it we think it’d do just fine as a paid app.

So, you might be wondering what gizmo’s we think would take it up a notch. Well, we’d love to have the ability to change timezones from within the app, so if you’ve got friends and family on other continents, you can more easily send them a reminder. The way Summertime works currently is you can only send reminders for the timezone that your iPhone is set to. Another feature that would really spice it up would be the ability to schedule reminders. If you could setup in advance your email distro list, select their time zone, and auto send reminders when the time is right, this app would rock! Nonetheless, Summertime does exactly what it says it does, and it does it very well. No issues, no bugs, just super quick access to current info for the next upcoming DST. Okay okay, you’re probably wondering what the heck that was all about. Well it was all about iForum, a handy little app that connects you directly to the original online Mac user community Info-Mac. It’s there that you can discuss a wide variety of Apple related topics with Mac, iPhone and iPod users from all over the world!

iForum functions exactly like a traditional online forum. The only difference is that it’s optimized for the iPhone. Like most forums, Info-Mac requires you to register. Thankfully iForum has the registration feature built right in so whether you’re a new user or a regular you’ll be able to access it in just seconds. The interface is quite plain, but it is extremely easy to use and has everything that you need in order to follow threads, post new topics, add responses, search for old posts, vote in polls, and more. You can even see pictures, YouTube videos, and lists of file attachments. Using iForum is literally as full featured as participating in a forum from a computer, only a million times better because you can access it anytime, anywhere from your iPhone.

Let’s face it, we’ve all hit points where we needed help with something related to our Mac, iPhone, or iPod. If you’re a compulsive shopper and always looking for a bargain then you might just like iDeals. iDeals is a shopping app that provides you with anytime, anywhere access to the same deals listed on DODTracker.com. iDeals essentially aggregates deals from other popular shopping sites and deal-of-the-day sites like Woot!, Daily Steals, Deadly Deal, Buy.com, EB Game, and many more. The app functions much like a typical affiliate shopping site on the web, you can link directly to the merchant site though the app to complete your purchase. From the apps main menu you can choose between All Deals, One-a-Day Sites, Computers & Electronics, Sports & Apparel, Music & Entertainment, Home & Kitchen, and Miscellaneous. Regardless of which one you choose the app quickly updates the screen with a constant influx of items to choose from.

App Plusses:

Imports deals very quickly. We were impressed by how smoothly it ran.
It’s free!

App Minusses:

The purchase process lacks luster. The app links to affiliate sites so you’re viewing a web page optimized for a computer from within the app instead of pages and forms that are optimized for the iPhone. We think this is a major deterrent for completing purchases from within the app.
The affiliate sites we saw within the app while shopping looked less than trust worthy. Many of the product and sales pages looked plain and slapped together, images used to display products were of low resolution, some of which were too small to adequately view on an iPhone or iPod touch.
No price comparisons. It’s difficult to tell whether or not you’re actually getting a deal without exiting the app to perform your own price comparisons.
Items are displayed in what appears to be a random order. Users should have the ability to filter through the selection so they can view by item type, brand, etc.
Full of ads.

ZenTap Pro

Two words can be used to sum up ZenTap Pro: Excellent app! If you’re anything like me, and use your iPhone to write and respond to literally all of your emails then ZenTap Pro, created by ZenBrains, is a must have app. As good as the iPhone’s built in dictionary and autocorrection technology is, I still continue to send out email after email with often embarrussing spelling and functuation errors (see what I mean). This is fine and good when you’re emailing your friends, but when you’re trying to make a serious point for work and you send out a horribly botched email with what looks like 3rd grade spelling errors and in some cases words that inadvertently resemble curse words (guilty as charged), you kinda put yourself in an awkward position. Wouldn’t it be cool to have a super-sick text editor app that can solve all of these problems?!?! Well now there is, and it’s called ZenTap Pro!

ZenTap Pro increases productivity and eliminates inadvertent misspellings entirely! With its top notch text edititing capabilities including an uber-intelligent text prediction system (helps you type 2-5 strokes faster than without it), spell-checking, templates system, customized buttons that allow you to define shortcuts for special characters (big plus), ability to change font size, the ability to save what you’ve typed so you can come back to it later, and the ability to export what you’ve typed directly into email, SMS, and Safari, ZenTap Pro is the real deal!

I tell you what! I love ZenTap Pro. It is without a doubt one of the best, if not THE best, text editor apps available in the App Store today. I didn’t experience a single bug or crash during testing. I loved how easy it is to type, review, and correct text. Having the option to save and come back later, create my own shortcut keys, and easy export into email were just the icing on the cake. I can honestly say ZenTap Pro is iPhone homepage quality. It’d make an excellent companion right next to your email and SMS icons.

There are two versions of ZenTap available in the App Store, a free slimmed down version and the full featured ZenTap Pro. I recommend you go Pro, but if you’d like a free test drive go snatch ZenTap ASAP. One thing’s for sure, if you’re in the market for a text editor app then there’s no need to look any further. Go get the goods! Download ZenTap Pro today!

ICEBeacon, created by Clear Wave Mobile, is a potentially useful little app. When I say useful I mean that it has the potential to be literally a lifesaver for someone. The basic functionality of ICEBeacon is that it provides a quick and easy way for users to send pre-setup texts to people in the event of an emergency. The user can have all of their important medical and personal information that would be needed in the event of an emergency sent to important contacts such as loved ones, gaurdians, doctors, etc.

The important thing is that all of this information is filled out initially when you purchase and install the application. Once this inital setup is complete, hopefully the user will never have a need to use the app again. But in case of an emergency all that is required is to push a button within the app and an emergency text will be sent out immediatly to anyone the user set up to recieve it.

Here are some of ICEBeacon’s features:

Picture for identification
Name, age, blood type, allergies, medications, medical condition
Insurance information

All in all I like the idea of having an app like this in my phone “just in case”. I can say that I’m not really sure how often something like this would actually be necessary though. This could be really usefull for elderly people as they might be most likely to have a large list of medical issues and are also most likely to need medical assistance. You do need to have a cell or internet connection for this app to work obviously so that can be one drawback if you are somewhere very remote.

I gave this app a solid 4 finger ranking because I believe it can be useful for certain people that have medical issues. Also it’s very easy to use. A recent update to the app now allows it to leverage the iPhone GPS and also send out texts worldwide; a handy upgrade.

One last item to mention about the app is that ICEBeacon’s App Store description also highlights that it is the only such app to have partnered with the American Red Cross. It helps a little with the app cost to know that a portion of it is going to a good cause.

“Through a partnership with the American Red Cross, 25 cents from every download will be donated to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, with Clearwave Mobile committing a minimum of $250,000 in donations by July 1, 2010. The Disaster Relief Fund enables the Red Cross to provide shelter, food, emotional support and other assistance to victims of all disasters.”
