
ustwo™ launches the .™ (the dot™) – the world’s first “48 hour app”
~ ustwo™ has created .™, the world’s first ’48 hour app’. Concept. Design. Development. Marketing concept. All produced in the space of 48 hours ~
ustwo™ – the creators of the hugely successful Steppin’™ and MouthOff™ - has just announced the launch of its latest app - the .™ (the dot™) – a simple game of survival!
Over the last 5 years ustwo™ has been heads down with client projects. Over-delivering UI based solutions that ultimately benefit everyone but ustwo™! Realising this ustwo™ has committed around £150k into the App area, building a quality iFocussed™ team focusing on the one and only: iApps™.
The beauty of iApps™ is that ustwo™ can control all parts of the projects in the studio. It controls the process, the budget, and the direction. The main issue ustwo™ faced was that apps were taking too long to make, with frustration mounting by not being able to talk about fresh apps, so it set itself a simple task – to create something cool, something addictive, something that showcases quick thinking.
The goal was for ustwo™ to produce an app in a two day period. Bottom line is that it had to go to Apple on the 48th hour. The .™ was born!
Simple, great design is key to the .™. You are the white dot struggling to survive. Your goal is to eat all the blue dots possible – preventing you from shrinking to nonexistence. You must avoid the red triangles at all costs. These will make you shrink edging closer to certain doom. Last as long as you can.
The key skill in this project was being able to say NO to the extras that ustwo™ wanted, but couldn’t be done in the time. The goal was to cover the development costs and break even – so 5750 downloads will be needed at 59p after Apple takes its cut. ustwo™ will then update the app with new features. In this case it’s the reverse Kostner©, ‘if you buy it, we will build’.
After being packaged and delivered to Apple, ustwo™ started to market .™, asking the question ‘have you seen the .™?’ via a Flickr group (http://www.flickr.com/groups/haveyouseenthe_dot). Although the campaign engagement was on a small scale, it began to build interest, allowing ustwo™ a forum to slowly drip feed news about what the app was whilst releasing 3 teaser videos mixed in between the photos. .™ is 1/6 of a suite of forthcoming apps from ustwo™, called 48hApps. Each of the apps is created in a 48 hour time period, and each is about simple, stunning design and simple, addictive game play. Collect all 6 games to complete the set. They are ‘cool’ectable™. The . ™ is on sale for $0.99 AND it might be the most addictive game in the long time.
